We recently watched a documentary about the early career of Marc Jacobs and his association with Louis Vuitton.
I was probably the most looking forward to seeing this documentary, as coincidentally Marc Jacobs happens to be one of my favourite designers!
I was apprehensive at first as I didn't know what to expect of the documentary as I didn't want it to be an 'admiration/tribute' to Marc Jacobs. I was taken aback however, when I finished watching I found it to be more of an insight into a life of a true creative artist.
I found it fascinating by how we got to see the contrast (or sometimes similar) work between Marc's own brand and the designs at chez Louis Vuitton,
Probably my most remembered, is that right?, take from the documentary was the nail biting scene in which Marc's team raced against time, literally, to complete the most adventurous bag ever. The scene even made me become stressed for a few minutes! It gave an riveting insight into the skillful process the designers go through.
The documentary showed the NY and Paris fashion shows and what was stimulating was how different the environment and mood was for each fashion show. I found the perspectives for each show was different mainly of the city they took place in, Paris expressed a sense of 'effortlessness' whereas you felt the adrenaline and fast paced energy of New York. I've come to appreciate the work of Marc Jacobs and designers more, if it was possible, as this film concentrates on the process of a creation rather than completely the artist which in my view is rare.
